The objective of the Refrigeration, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Service Technician (RHVAC) Diploma program is to provide students with the electrical and mechanical knowledge and performance skills required of entry-level technicians to install, adjust, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair residential and commercial refrigeration, heating and air conditioning equipment for proper operation and efficiency. The program teaches the fundamentals of:
- Refrigeration and principles of electricity
- Residential and commercial refrigeration
- Heating, air conditioning, humidifying and air cleaning
- Residential heat pumps
- Heat load calculations and duct sizing
Upon graduation from Kaplan Career Institute, you will receive your RHVAC diploma and 4,000 hours credit toward the 6,000 hours requirement for a Massachusetts Refrigeration License. You will then need to register with the state of Massachusetts to work as an apprentice. We can provide you with the forms and contacts you will need to make the process go smoothly. You can apply to be an apprentice with independent HVAC contractors, property management companies, and large buildings such as hospitals and hotels. Once you have your refrigeration license, you are permitted to start your own company.
